The Convalescence is always a pleasure to see the area group put in the heart, sweat, tears, and fake blood to make the metal happen.

No strangers to the local metal haunts, The Convalescence are Keith Wampler (vocals), Luke Walden (guitar), Terry Borel (guitar), Anthony Pearcy (bass), Savage Green (drums), and Katie McCrimmon (keyboards). Forming in late March of 2011 as a side project for many of the members.

Their hard riffs, growling vocals, and melodic keyboard/sampling stand on their own and make the stage presence even more unique live especially with their signature look. Even with the breaking in of a new member in his very first live show, the band didn’t miss a step. Now signed with Ferocious Records, the band sets out to support their new and third release, The Process.

Being a part of the opening night as well were Kissing Candice, a Dirtfest 2014 NRR stage opener, from Long Island, NY., lead by Joey Simpson. Joey, Tommy, Marco, Grippo, and Jason showed why being invited to both days of the initial Knotfest was no fluke and being able to play Dirtfest last-minute only showed the band’s determination to continue to raise higher in the eyes of their fans and promoters alike. High energy stage presence, and their trademark masks with blood not only overcame a small equipment problem, but won over the crowd, as well, at the venue.

In addition opening for the kick off was regional Ohio four-piece, Among the Fallen. Based out of Warren, Ohio, and friends since high school, Frankie’s snarling vocals with harmonic breaks went hand in hand with Bobby’s axe play, Tony’s stand alone bass solos, and Mike’s blistering drum beats. While currently unsigned, the band has their first album release, “Penumbra” which they are touring in support of.

Also from the Detroit/Toledo pipeline, Full Strike Frenzy from Monroe, MI., made an appearance even after their drummer suffered an injury the night before. The bassist Mark Woodley said it bluntly they don’t cancel shows and lead vocalist, Joseph Massingill, pulled double duty to make sure the show went on as planned. Formed in 2009, originally as a three-piece, the normal four piece unit didn’t miss a beat playing with a fill in friend of the band. If you’re in the area, the guys in FSF will be playing THE TOKEN LOUNGE in Westland, MI on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 at 8 p.m.

Opening the night as well were Reverse the Belief, Portrait of a Plague, and As Darkness Decays, all from the local area.
