Their first time in Louisville since October, Avatar ruled the Expo Five main stage with Shines Negative, Untold Rellik, Beyond Duplication and Amongst The Waves.

On a hot and steamy evening on Expo Five’s main stage, Swedish metal band Avatar delivered a memorable metal performance for a very appreciative crowd.  After the intro music played and the master of ceremonies introduced the group, Avatar took the stage proudly displaying their Avatar pennants. Avatar then launched their set with the title song from their most recent album, Hail the Apocalypse, whipping the crowd into a fever pitch.  Rolling right into “Let It Burn,” Avatar was well on their way to a ninety-minute, thirteen-song set that was like a shot of heavy metal adrenaline.

Along the way, fans were treated to other favorites like “Let us Die,” “Puppet Show,”  and “Freakshow.” A Trombone and flute are a rarely seen at metal shows, but Johannes and John respectively played their instruments as though they were standard equipment for every metal band.  Add to that the gas can water bottle Johanne use and Avatar definitely stands out as a band that is unlike the rest.  Unfortunately, all great things must come to an end as Avatar played their final song “Tower” leaving everyone in attendance, including Five Finger Death Punch’s Chris Kael, thoroughly entertained.

“After sacrificing a goat in the name of Odin” the members of Avatar met fans, took pictures, and signed posters for anyone who wanted one. It was the perfect ending to an incredible show and one that will not be easily forgotten!

Avatar is Johannes Eckerström (Vocals), Jonas Jarlsby (Guitar), Tim Öhrström (Guitar), Henrik Sandelin (Bass) and John Alfredsson(Drums)

It was great to see a host of local metal groups supporting Avatar this evening. Louisville-based Shines Negative were the second-billed act to perform before Avatar and left no one disappointed, performing a thirty-minute set of original melodic/metal songs that capped off a great evening of local Louisville metal. The band lineup includes Mike (vocals), Nelson (lead guitar), Tim (guitar), Monte (bass), and Chris (percussion).

Untold Rellik, hailing from Frankfort, KY, didn’t miss a beat with a solid set of hard-driving metal set ending their show with their signature song “Untold Rellik.” Untold Rellik is Josh Glover (Vocals) Lewis Barnes (Guitar) Jody Kendall (Drums) Brad Tracy (Guitar) David Butts (bass)

On stage second, Beyond Duplication kicked the evening in high gear with a powerhouse set of original metal music. They are an excellent example of what the local metal scene has to offer and shouldn’t be missed.

Amongst The Waves started the evening with a set of their original alternative/pop/punk music.
