Blues guitarist and singer, Ana Popovic, thoroughly engaged the audience at Chicago’s City Winery.

It’s not very often that you get a completely silent audience at a show, but this was one of those rare occasions as they sat captivated by the talent and presence on stage. Ana Popovic is one of those people whose guitar is clearly an extension of her body through which she could express her deepest feelings and emotions.

Within just three songs, she managed to achieve a standing ovation from the enthusiastic crowd, the first of many throughout the night. Some people’s first encounter with Popovic was seeing her perform as part of the star-studded Experience Hendrix line-up earlier this year. That was just a teaser for what this lady can do.

Popovic is a born performer and shines on the stage. With her strong bluesy riffs and sultry voice, she certainly knows how to put on a show. As well as performing her own songs, she also threw in a good dose of covers throughout the night. She included covers such as Tom Waits’ “New Coat of Paint”, Albert Kings’ “Can’t You See What You’re Doing To Me” and Hendrix’s “Crosstown Traffic.” These are ambitious songs to attempt, but Popovic aced them with ease.

Hearing her perform, it’s clear to see why she was invited to join the blues heavyweights on the Experience Hendrix tour. She is a phenomenally talented player, with a voice that has just the right amount of both grit and soul. It’s no wonder she has a number of other artists, such as Joe Bonamassa, guesting on her current album, Trilogy.

Ana has a number of upcoming tour dates throughout the US before heading over to Europe in October, so be sure to catch her if she comes to your town. She adds a refreshing new lease of life into the Blues. Enjoy catching her in the more intimate settings when you can as it won’t be long before she filling out the larger theaters. Rightly so, this artist is making waves.
