Blue Oyster Cult and Lynyrd Skynyrd performed at a party honoring Peavey’s 50th Anniversary at the Anaheim Hilton during NAMM 2015.
Fifty years is a major milestone, so to celebrate their 50th anniversary, Peavey Electronics threw a huge party at the Anaheim Hilton, and invited a few of their friends to play.
Blue Oyster Cult and Lynyrd Skynyrd both played brief sets at the Thursday night party, joined by Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne), Kenny Aronoff (Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Smashing Pumpkins, Bob Dylan), and pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph.
First up was Blue Oyster Cult with Rudy Sarzo, who played a four-song set consisting of “Burnin’ for You,†“Godzilla,†“Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll,†and culminating with a finale of “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper,†where they were joined on stage by Kenny Aronoff playing “more cowbell.â€
After a short stage break, Lynyrd Skynyrd took the stage, joined by Aronoff, Michael Anthony, and Robert Randolph. They opened their set with a rousing cover of Bob Diddley’s “Who Do You Love?†followed by “Gimme Three Steps,†“The Breeze,†and “Sweet Home Alabama.â€
The night ended with Michael Anthony taking over lead vocals for an unforgettable version of Van Halen’s “Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love.â€
