Alice In Chains entertain a sold-out Rivera Theatre in Chicago, with support from Walking Papers.
Fellow Seattle-band, Walking Papers, kicked things off. Despite being a very early show due to weekday curfews, when the Walking Papers took to the stage at 7.30pm, the Riviera Theatre was already close to filling up. Those who ventured out early were glad to have made it out to catch this six-piece band who are currently touring in support of their current album, WP2.
Frontman, Jeff Angell, entertained as he swung and threw his microphone around repeatedly. The band’s bassist, Duff McKagen, and drummer, Barrett Martin, were unable to join their bandmates on this tour due to prior commitments, so instead Angell and keyboardist Benjamin Anderson are joined by guitarist Nate Daley, bassist Dan Spalding, drummer Will Andrews and saxophonist Gregor Lothian.

With the crowd nicely warmed up and packed to capacity, it was time for Alice In Chains to take to the stage. The last time they were in Chicago was opening for Guns N Roses at Soldier Field back in 2016. This time they are back with their own headlining show, which was clearly very music appreciated by the Chicago crowd packing out the Riviera Theatre.
Alice In Chains released their first new song in five years, “The One You Know” earlier this month from their upcoming, still unnamed sixth studio album which is set for release this year. They were sure to include this new material during the show, which showcases their renowned two-singer approach. Their set was packed with all of their hits including “Man In The Box,” “Down In A Hole,” “Would?” and “Rooster” as well as the emotionally charged “Nutshell.”
Additional dates have recently been added to their 2018 tour, spanning from August through until late October, with many dates already sold out. If this is one you want to catch, do not hesitate – go buy your tickets today. It’s been a long time coming and you will surely not regret it.
