The sounds of Rockfest rocked KC featuring Steel Panther, Zakk Wylde & Black Label Society, Korn, Pop Evil, Staind, The Pretty Reckless, Five Finger Death Punch, and more.

For more than 20 years, rock music station 98.9 The Rock has put on this music festival called Rockfest. Located in Kansas City, it is considered to be the largest one-day music festival in the country bringing in more than 50,000 people. With two stages, the music is non-stop for 12 hours and hosts 15 bands throughout the day. With bands like Korn, Five Finger Death Punch, Staind, Zakk Wylde with Black Label Society, Pop Evil, Steel Panther, and The Pretty Reckless, you know this was a year not to miss!

National Rock Review photographer Casey Drahota braved the storms to bring you concert images from Rockfest.

Korn brought their thunderous sounds to headline Rockfest and was a crowd pleaser. Korn is always a great band to see live as they bring big lights, big props and a very high level of energy every time!

Five Finger Death Punch is another band that brings it big when they perform live. They also have a big stage set and a huge amount of energy when they are performing.

Pop Evil are having a successful run of chart topping hits lately. Pop Evil is another high energy band when performing live and plays good old rock and roll and had the crowd fired up for their set!

Staind singer Aaron Lewis made national headlines after stopping his set and calling out guys in the crowd who were inappropriately groping an underage female crowd surfer. Aarons tirade directed at the gropers was well received by the crowd and video of the incident has gone viral since.

Steel Panther was a crowd favorite. For anyone that has not seen a Steel Panther show I would explain it as a 80’s hair band spoofing comedy act. The guys are hilarious but are very talented musicians as well. I real enjoyed their set however it is an adult show and at times can be raunchy.

Black Label Society is a hard rocking band fronted by Ozzy Osbourne’s legendary guitar player Zakk Wylde. Any band that brings tons of Marshal full stack amplifiers and lines them up on stage has just made a fan of me! For sure Zakk is one of the best guitar players ever.

The Pretty Reckless is a band that has a unique sound and has raced up the charts lately. I am a fan of their music and definitely a fan of lead singer Taylor Momsen. She brings awesome vocals, fantastic stage presence and is just plain hot!

About The Author

From the first time Casey played one of his mom's old records on her pioneer turntable, he knew what he wanted to be, a rock star. Everything changed after seeing his first concert, Def Leopard back in the 80's. It is one thing to listen to a great song on the radio, but to see a great performer on stage performing that same song is what he loves. His life long passion for live music has intersected with a more recent passion of photography to once again change everything by introducing him to the world of concert photography. Getting a great shot of an amazing performance and seeing the reactions to a photograph can be exhilarating. Being a concert photographer can be chaotic, exciting, high energy, obstacle ridden, right in the mix place to be while trying to concentrate on getting great band interaction and emotion.
