Black Metal legends Mayhem decimate the near sold out crowd at Social Hall in San Francisco, California.

Performing their De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas album in it’s entirety, Mayhem took the stage in hoods and cloaks, with almost zero production. The minimal lighting and smoke that sometimes consumed the entire stage only added to the beautiful eeriness of their music, though, and gave every song a sense of sheer terror.

Vocalist Attila may have been the ringmaster, but it was drummer Hellhammer and bassist Necrobutcher that made the classic songs sound just as good as they did 20 plus years ago. Highlights included “Life Eternal,” “From the Dark Past,” and “Freezing Moon.”

Support on this tour comes from Inquisition and Black Anvil, who were both perfect bands to start the black metal festivities.
