A high energy night of metal rocked Chicago’s House of Blues as In This Moment’s Black Widow Tour continues.
First Decree was the first of three opening bands, and started the night off on a strong note. From the very beginning of the night, the crowd showed that they were ready and more than up for the night ahead of them. Keyboard wielding UK band, The Defiled, and Alaska’s 36 Crazyfists both built on the momentum so that everyone was warmed up nicely by the time In This Moment was ready to take to the stage.
It’s been a long time since the metal scene has witnessed such an extravagant stage production as put on by In This Moment. Maria Brinks’ command of the audience did not falter once throughout the entire set, with the Blood Legion screaming the second she raised her hand up in the air. A purely epic performance throughout with more costume changes than a Broadway musical. In return, the fans did not let them down. When they were called upon to “become the show,” they did just that – with outfits and painted faces that would not have looked out of place on the stage itself.
Whilst the theatrics of the show differentiate it to other bands on the road at the moment, it would do an injustice to only focus on that. Maria is a phenomenal front woman with amazing command of the audience, but not just with her costumes and choreography, but her powerful voice and empowering lyrics. The band themselves should not be forgotten. All extremely strong musicians, who also knew how to put on a show. Overall, it is surprising that such a powerful stage show was able to fit into the space it did. It’s only a matter of time before this show makes it’s way to larger venues.
If In This Moment comes to your town, find a costume that is fitting for the occasion and be sure to go check them out.
