William Beckett’s show at the Roxy in West Hollywood was a perfect blend of songs from The Academy Is… and his solo career.
William Beckett, the former leader singer of The Academy Is… is currently out on the road with Aaron Gillepsie on an acoustic tour of the U.S.
Beckett is a dynamic frontman with a full band behind him, but the solo shows he has been playing since The Academy Is… disbanded have been mellow and soft, showcasing his sweet romanticism as opposed to rock star bravado.
Beckett’s set drew equally from 2013’s solo album, Genuine & Counterfeit, and from The Academy Is… adding in a cover of Death Cab for Cutie’s “Marching Bands of Manhattan,†as well as a dash of Sweeney Todd for good measure. It was a winning combination for the audience of loyal fans who thoroughly enjoyed the show.
Set List:
- Hanging on a Honeymoon
- Caught in the Middle
- The Phrase that Pays (The Academy Is…)
- Cracks in the Ceiling
- Marching Bands of Manhattan (Death Cab for Cutie cover)
- Down and Out (The Academy Is…)
- Everything We Had (The Academy Is…)
- Just You Wait
- About a Girl (The Academy Is…)
The Academy Is… have announced that they will play one final 10th year anniversary farewell show at Riot Fest Chicago this September. In the meantime, be sure to catch William Beckett on his tour with Aaron Gillepsie this summer.
