Blake Shelton brings his St Patrick’s Day party to Rosemont’s Allstate Arena.
The Voice alumni were out in force on Friday night to support their mentor, Blake Shelton. First up was season 11’s winner, Sundance Head who brought his own blend of country and soul, with a good dose of rock voice and guitar riffs thrown in for good measure. As the Allstate Arena slowly filled up with cowboy hats and shamrocks, Sundance certainly put in his all to get the party started.
After a short opening set, it was time for another of Shelton’s mentees, RaeLynn, to take to the stage. Looking every bit the country superstar already, RaeLynn looked comfortable on the stage in front of the ever-growing audience. Her sweet country voice and catchy tunes had the audience on their feet and fired up for the night ahead. RaeLynn’s album WildHorse is due to be released on March 24 and her solo tour starts just a few weeks after. It’s very likely she will have a lot of Blake fans attending judging by the way she was received.
With the arena at fever pitch, it was time for the man with the cheeky glint in his eye to take to the stage. Joining in with the St Patrick’s Day festivities, Shelton raised a toast to the Rosemont crowd. The audience erupted when he performed his Gwen Stefani inspired song, “A Guy With A Girl”.
The Oklahoma star is going from strength to strength, filling out the arena with adoring fans, many of who rushed to get a high five as he walked passed on the runway stage. Banging out hits such as “Sangria” and “Boys ‘Round Here”, the 25-song set also had a good selection of covers, including “Footloose” and “All My Exes Live in Texas”.
Whilst this might have a been a big stage, this is a show that doesn’t need all the glitz and glamor and huge stage production. Shelton’s voice and his acoustic guitar alone would have carried this two-hour show.
