Laugh, and the world laughs with you. because your veggie section in your supermarket is about to mosh, well that must mean Cadre is playing there.

Johnny Mascioli (vocals), Tim Boddington (drums), Matt Hellebuyck (bass), Sean Patterson (guitar), and Robbie Fraser (guitar) make up the family that is Cadre. Already having one EP out, Nation, and having one in the chamber, This Time Around, they have been busy. The fellas aren’t slowing down just for Dirt Fest. Ladies, you can apply to model one of the new shirts at their Facebook page. Now, on with the show.

NRR: What’s been going on with the band in the last year since you played Dirt Fest 2014?
Johnny Mascioli: A lot! We released our Cadre EP, Nation. It went over really well, we think! We actually just wrapped another four song EP titled, This Time Around, out at Metro 37 Studios! We’ve been blessed to share the stage with some really cool bands in the last year and looking forward to more shows and good times!
NRR: Hopefully you guys have a great time on stage this year. Are you looking forward to anything in particular at Dirt Fest 2015?
Johnny Mascioli: (Laughing), we always have a great time on stage! And we’re looking forward to stage power for our whole set! (Laughing), for some reason we have bad luck with that at Dirt Fest, but we jam out anyway! That’s what the mega phone is for! All jokes aside, for us it’s everything about Dirt Fest we look forward too! The energy, the crowd, the face-to-face connection with the people, and other bands! It’s a sweet day all around for everyone!

Cadre – Knowing That You’re Gone

NRR: Will we hear any new material at Dirt Fest this year, say from a new album?
Johnny Mascioli: Damn skippy! We’re pushing the new EP pretty hard! The first single is titled, “This Time Around!” It’s a little mainstream for us but epic none the less!! So hell yeah, lots of new tunes for the nation this year, (horns)!
NRR: What kind of rush did you guys have playing with Hell Rides North? Didn’t they win the Coldcock Whiskey stage spot at Mayhem in Indy?
Johnny Mascioli: Not sure about the whiskey deal but it’s always a good time when Cadre and Hell Rides [North] share the stage! Both bands are from the same scene so we’ve been playing together for ten plus years in different projects and what not. So, it’s always dope! (Horns), keep your ears open we have pretty sweet Cadre/Hell Rides surprises coming in the near future!
NRR: You guys are from various older bands that didn’t make it in the Detroit scene. What’s kept you guys together since 2012?
Johnny Mascioli: To be honest, I think we’ve all been there and done it so many times that with Cadre we’re on the [same] page! We love to jam and write new tunes. We all have the same goal and idea! We’re not young kids chasing woman and looking for the next free beer anymore! (Laughing), and we’re a real family! We hang out! Our kids hang together, I mean real talk we’re family first. And I think that’s why we are where we are and also why were going bigger places!
NRR: What can we expect from Cadre in the coming days after Dirt Fest is again an apocalyptic dream of a sleeping giant until 2016?
Johnny Mascioli: We [will] stay busy! More shows, more writing, and more good times! Big things on horizon! We’re gonna push the hell out of the new EP! Shop it like crazy and stay busy! The music bizz will never pay you like a business if you don’t stay on the grind and treat it like a business!
NRR: Is there a band or bands on this year’s Dirt Fest line-up that you are looking forward to seeing as fans?
Johnny Mascioli: Oh hell yeah!! Hellyeah, Down, mother f-in COAL CHAMBER! To many to mention! They really out did themselves this year with the line up!

NRR: How important is selling merch for a band like Cadre at a festival like this, and how goes the model search for the new lady’s tee, (laughing)?
Johnny Mascioli: Very important! Merch is how you make your money on these fest-type shows! And the merch booth gives you a chance to connect with fans on a more personal level. And to us you can’t put a price on that! (Horns up), we have some new ladies merch coming soon! And if that was your way of asking for the model job it’s all yours homie, (laughing)!
NRR: For anyone that might not have heard your music before, what can they hope to get from your sound on stage?
Johnny Mascioli: Oh man! That’s a good one. Our style and range has been all over the place lately! We come aggressive, we come pretty! (Laughing), we can hit you with a love ballad and then start a mosh pit in the grocery store! (Laughing), we’re all over the place and if you haven’t seen a Cadre show your cheating yourself out of something epic! We strive to not only create good music but entertain our fans as well!

“… the band is looking forward to pushing the envelope musically when it comes to writing. Where, at certain points, some of the songs can be as bipolar and diverse as the Michigan weather they grew up in. Leaving no stone unturned, Cadre will strive to put that Detroit stamp back on the map of music.” ~ Band Bio

NRR: What would likely be the one item on tour the entire band would have a fight to the death to be the winner of? Beer, taco, baby wipes etc?
Johnny Mascioli: Shit paper! (Laughing), that’s hard to say we all have different wants! Chocolate milk, Monster [Energy Drink], Coors Light, Fireball [Whiskey], tacos, burgers. (Laughing), taking the last one of any of those could get any one of us left on the curb at some point! (Laughing) Thanks for the time bros! Cadre appreciates all the hard work you guys put into all your events!! And all the love you give to us bands out here trying make a living!
