80’s In the Park is back in its 5th year, bigger than ever, with a twist fans will love.
The festival has a slightly different name this year, 80’s In the Park Rockin’ Hotel, giving a hint as to what is to come. Who remembers the Hyatt House in Los Angeles, CA? Or shall I say “Riot House”?! The ‘twist’ in the festival events this year is that ALL of it takes place in ONE location, The International Palms Resort in Cocoa Beach, FL. In the past, it has taken place in various places in Melbourne, just south of Cocoa. It should bring some semblance to the infamous Hyatt House, with rock stars and VIP fans intermingling after each night’s shows until late in the night. Quoting from their website, “You will need to ask for Monday off!!!”
The headliners closing each of the big nights will be Lynch Mob, Jackyl, and Winger. There will be many new artists and a few favorites returning such as Nova Rex and Gene Loves Jezebel.
This year’s event should prove to be a stress-free, rocking, and relaxing four-day weekend without the need to travel between venues for the shows nor the VIP after parties. After all, 80’s in The Park, in its 5th year, is still the largest all inclusive 80’s music weekend in the country and well worth the trip.
There are some VIP tickets as well as general admission still available at press time and can be purchased on their website. Keep an eye on their Facebook page as they announce special deals and updates on the event frequently. The resort also had some rooms available which can be booked in advance and nothing will be charged until arrival/departure. What a deal??!
The International Palms Resort is located directly on the beach and has many amenities including three restaurants on site, large pool with poolside cabanas for rent. Bands will perform at the beach side tiki bar as well as a large stage outside and in the huge ballroom inside the resort.
We spoke with one of the promoters of the event, Richard Hendry, regarding the experience the fans will have this year. When asked what the fans can expect this year, he says, “We have received a great response for the event and it has changed and improved each year due to feedback from the fans. This year we have a ‘rock convention’, so to speak, which will include celebrity authors, new and used vinyl for sale, jewelry, T-shirts, and meet and greets (all rock related). “
More information on appearances and the convention can be found here.
There are still artists and attractions being added to the bill leading up to the festival’s kickoff and he says to keep a close eye on the 80’s in the Park Facebook page for all updates as well as the schedule of events. He also made the slightest of hints to big things coming that are in the works for the 80’s in the Park team for later this year and again early next year. We will definitely be keeping our eyes open for that!
