The Twistin’ Tarantulas invaded The Plymouth Roc right after Thanksgiving, with special guests, The Bluesairmen Band!
The Bluesairmen Band kicked off the night with Dave Goldsworthy on vocals and guitar, Art McCauley on bass, and Nick Marocco, being in both bands, playing double duty on drums.
The band is an extension of BluesAirmen Guitars, a Metro Detroit favorite guitar store, owned by musicians, for musicians. Playing a medley of Led Zeppelin covers along with many other favorites and originals, this band had the crowd jamming. When you see a band where the guitarist plays his guitar with a bow, you know it’s a good show.
Special guests accompanied the band, including Randy Peavler, Robert Dancer of LIXX, and the special return of Tony Marocco, who played his first show since taking a medical leave from the local scene.
Closing out the night with Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” Bluesairmen had the entire crowd singing along. This Motor City classic rock and blues band is always a great show, and an awesome way to start the night.
Coming up next, with high energy, was the Twistin’ Tarantulas. The Twistin’ Tarantulas have been rocking the world with their own blend of jump-blues and rockabilly for over twenty years. They have three albums of original material under their belt and have toured around the world without the aid of a record label.
With “Pistol” Pete Midtgard on the upright and electric bass, Carl Bradychok on guitar, and Nick Marocco recently joining the band on drums, this trio commands a presence. They also played “Stage Diving Fat Kid,” their newest song which has almost developed a fan base on its own.
An amazing thing about this band is their originality and variety. They can go from playing a bluesy tune that has the crowd dancing, to Johnny Cash covers, and then jump to The Ramones and Motorhead with their own punk twist.
The band has a lot of shows scheduled, with more to be announced. If you haven’t seen these guys before, catch one of their upcoming shows and enjoy the party.
NRR’s own Mick Mcdonald had the chance to talk with The Tarantula’s founding member, bassist and frontman “Pistol” Pete Midtgard. You can catch the interview here.
