In This Moment fire up their fans on The Witching Hour Tour with support from P.O.D., New Years Day, and Ded.
Ded from Phoenix, AZ get the night off to a blazing start. They tear through a set that includes the singles “Dead to Me”, “Hate Me”, and several other songs from their debut album Mis•an•thrope. They wrap up their set with their big hit “Anti-Everything” that has the crowd singing along.
Next up is New Years Day, led by vocalist Ash Costello. She is a dynamo working the stage from side-to-side and pumping up the fans. They are touring in support of their recent release, Diary of a Creep. Several songs from it make the setlist tonight, including a blistering cover of Pantera’s “Fucking Hostile” that has the crowd going crazy. New Years Day have been around since 2006, but for many, this is the first time seeing them. If tonight’s crowd reaction is any indication, they will be greatly expanding their fanbase on this tour.
Long-time rockers P.O.D. take the stage to huge cheers. They kick off with the new song “Soundboy Killa” and the crowd is immediately energized. Lead singer Sonny Sandoval stalks the stage relentlessly, throwing in jumps and fist pumps, as well as hopping down into the photo pit to greet fans up front. Bandmates Wuv, Traa, and Marcos lay down the bottom-heavy groove that powers the songs. The crowd loves it and it doesn’t take long before a mosh pit breaks out. These southern California rockers have been cranking out music for 26 years and tonight’s set spans their releases including the songs “Southtown”, “Murdered Love”, and fan favorites “Boom”, “Alive”, and “Youth of the Nation”.
Fans for In This Moment are buzzing in anticipation of them to hit the stage. Several fans are dressed up in outfits that resemble lead singer Maria Brink. The crowd erupts in loud cheers as the band takes the stage and launches into “Blood”. They are touring in support of their current release Ritual.
Each song is supported visually by costume changes, video, as well as plenty of fog and deep-hued lighting During the song “Adrenalize”, Maria uses a tube resembling a gun to shoot a long stream of smoke/fog into the air and toward the audience. The fans love it. In This Moment also do a cool cover of the Phil Collins classic hit “In The Air Tonight”.
While Maria Brink is the main focus, each of the band members are solid musicians and their stage presence is not to be missed. About halfway through the set, the band members do a jam that showcases each of them. Kent Dimmel on drums is an absolute beast, and bassist Travis Johnson loves to strike poses for the fans while driving out the low-end.
They close out the main portion of their set with one of the most popular songs, “Sick Like Me”, that has the crowd amped up with many crowd-surfing. They follow that up with “Oh Lord” from their current release. After a short break, they return to the stage for an encore and finish the night with another fan favorite, “Whore” from their Blood album. This song has Maria wearing a dunce cap with “Whore” written on it. It’s another great show by In This Moment and all the bands.
In This Moment’s full setlist is “Blood”, “River of Fire”, “Adrenalize”, “Roots”, “Burn”, “Lay Your Gun Down”, “Monster Jam”, “Big Bad Wolf”, “In the Air Tonight”, “Sick Like Me”, “Oh Lord”, “Whore”.
