Reality TV talent shows have a love/hate following in the music business. The truth of the matter is though, that many times genuine talent is discovered. This is certainly the case with America’s Got Talent Season Five winner Michael Grimm.
Reality TV talent shows have a love/hate following in the music business. The truth of the matter is though, that many times genuine talent is discovered. This is certainly the case with America’s Got Talent season five winner Michael Grimm.
Fast forward five years and Grimm finds himself with a new album, simply titled “Grimmâ€, set for release on June 15, 2015, and a brand new residency at Vinyl, inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The residency runs from June 6, 2015 on weekends through August 30.
To introduce the album, as well as experience what this show will look, feel, and sound like, Grimm hosted two media nights where he perfomed the new album in full. The performance was outstanding. Soulful, honest, and heartfelt.
In a venue mostly known for general admission, heavy rock shows, the room was cozied up with standard seating as well as VIP round tables near the back. This set up fit a more laid back blues/rock musician much more than a general admission situation would be. This intimate atmosphere is perfect for the show and lends to a flawless date night.
During the set, Grimm took many opportunities to express his gratitude at the trajectory of his career as well as the people that have helped to get him to where he is today. If you watched that season of AGT at all it was apparent this is a stand up guy.
It seems that fame has not changed him at all. If anything the man is more humble and appreciative of his success. This core of Grimm’s personality is heard in his new album as well, although in reference to his writing partner, Kevin Hunter, Grimm states “The songs we create aren’t created, they’re discovered.†A modest assessment of some very well written and superbly performed songs.
In addition to performing the album, Grimm opened up quite a bit and honestly, listening to Michael speak between songs was as inspiring and enjoyable as the music itself. He’s a great speaker and storyteller and hopefully he will keep this in the shows he does outside of the preview nights. His personality really took hold of the room and added an element of caring and emotion into the performance.
Even if you aren’t completely familiar with Michael Grimm, his history, or his ride to fame, do yourself a favor and check him out. Most certainly grab hold of the new album, a nice bottle of wine, and prepare for fantastic summer night relaxing in your back yard. Of course if you’re planning to enjoy Vegas this summer this show should definitely be on your to do list as well. You’ll leave the perfromance with a full heart and a new friend.
