NOFX headlined the punk tour of the year and stopped off in Denver to play an unforgettable show at The Fillmore.
It was an early Thursday for the start of a show, but it didn’t stop people from showing up for the two-o’clock door time. There were seven bands on the lineup for this stop for the Fat Wreck tour:Â Toy Guitar, Masked Intruder, The Flatliners, Swingin’ Utters, Strung Out, Lagwagon, and NOFX.
Toy guitar started this amazing punk show to a steadily filling up auditorium with a short, but sweet set of songs off their album In This Mess. Masked Intruder took the stage next and dressed like burglars at Christmas clad with colorful ski masks, matching converse and even instruments. Toronto natives The Flatliners blew the crowd away with a great mix of songs off the four albums they have put out over the last ten years they’ve been a band. The room was really starting to fill up as Swingin’ Utters took the stage. These punk rock veterans have been around since 1987, so they definitely know how to put on a good show.
Next up was Strung Out with an amazing set that included several songs of their new album Transmission.Alpha.Delta. which has a perfectly heavy mix of punk and metal. These guys are always so entertaining to watch live as the extremely energetic guitarist Jake Kiley really got into it with his big air jumps.
Lagwagon put on an amazing show, as usual, and played the whole 1995 album Hoss mixed in with the rest of their set. It looked like singer Joey Cape wasn’t there briefly as he came out with a shaved head instead of that nice head of hair he has always had.
And last, but most certainly not least, NOFX finished off the night. Fat Mike came out in what appeared to be a black kilt, but he clarified that “This is not a kilt. I’m wearing a leather skirt.” Their show was quite entertaining as the stage was bombarded with shoes and full beer cans during the entire set. Like Lagwagon, they played an entire album EP, The Longest Line. Mike even “sang” all of Murder the Government with a ball gag in his mouth.
