Louisville Black metal masters, Anagnorisis, dominate Louisville’s Zanzabar with Stagecoach Inferno and Deapscufa.
Halloween treats come a little early for a significant group of Louisville metallers as Anagnorisis play a special show in front of their hometown fans. Founded in 2003, Anagnorisis, named for the Greek phrase for “discovery,” has released three full-length records, most recently Peripeteia in late 2016, along with two EPs.
With frontman Zachary Kerr roaring all over the stage along with guitarist Zak Denham, bassist John Mumford, and keyboardist Samuel Hartman, Anagnorisis drive through a dark and moody 60-minute set opening with “Death Mimics Life”. Several songs from their recent release Peripeteia follow including “5306 Morningside,” “Metamorphosis,” and the title track following in rapid-fire succession before closing the evening with “Forever Night”.
Tonight’s show is bittersweet as it marks the final show for Anagnorisis family member Samuel Hartman who has been with the group since 2007. There is plenty of love and appreciation for Sam and his contributions to the band both on stage and in the crowd even after the final notes of the final song are played.
There are two things you can count on each time Louisville’s greatest wild west heavy metallers, Stagecoach Inferno takes the stage; some blistering metal music and a roaring good time.
Celebrating Halloween a little early, Stagecoach Inferno hit the stage each dressed as pro-wrestler Randy “Macho Man” Savage, while tossing handfuls of Slim Jims instead of candy from the stage. Starting off fast and furious, Stagecoach Inferno begins with “The Dead and The Damned” from their debut album A Town Called Atonement along with “Blood in My Boots” and “Hammer and Tongs”.
Guitarists Stephen Casciato and Brennan Jesse Ray along with demonstrative bassist Hunter Correll and rock-solid drummer Thom Warnock always seem to have a surprise or two up their collective sleeve and tonight was no exception as they rolled into a metal cover of “Macho Man” by the Village People with what seemed like the entire venue singing along.
Opening the evening are Louisville based black metallers, Deapscufa. Fronted by Guitarist/Songwriter Nick Hadley Deapscufa, they roll through a deep and dark set of original songs from their self -titled debut album including “Otherworld” and “Scars of Witchery”.
