Blues legend Walter Trout returns with the follow-up to 2015’s autobiographical Battle Scars album.

For We’re All In This Together, Walter Trout has rounded up a who’s who of his famous friends, family and esteemed blues colleagues. Each of the fourteen compositions on the record features a separate guest artist.

Bringing all of these names together would have been a huge logistical exercise, but with the aid of modern technology, some of the tracks were constructed by sending segments of the songs between the respective parties via the Internet. However, on the strength and closely knit performances on each of these tracks, you would never know it, they all sound very organic.

The opening track “Gonna Hurt Like Hell” featuring Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a blistering blues rock number, which really sets the scene for the rest of the album. Each track on the record seems to highlight the musical gifts of the guest featured on the number. From the phenomenal slide guitar play of Sonny Landreth on “Ain’t Goin’ Back”, to Charlie Musselwhite’s devastating blues harp on “The Other Side Of The Pillow” and Edgar Winter’s Sax infusion on “She Steal’s My Heart Away”, each song on the record takes the listener to a different place in the blues genre.

It’s a pleasure and a joy to hear Walter Trout play off of each of these incredible artists throughout the record. This is particularly the case during Trout’s partnership with Warren Haynes on their take of the Elmore James classic “The Sky Is Crying” and also the title track, along with Joe Bonamassa. The latter of which was recorded in a single take, where both Walter and Joe stood a few feet apart from each other in the studio and the chemistry between the pair is simply stunning.

Trout takes a walk down memory lane with his former Bluesbreaker bandmate John Mayall on the track “Blues For Jimmy T.”, which is a song about Walter’s former bass player Jimmy Trapp who sadly passed away in 2005. The heartfelt number features some stunning blues harp from Mayall.

We’re In This Together is the complete blues album, it encapsulates the full spectrum of the genre. The record depicts Walter Trout at the top of his game and having a lot of fun with his good friends in the process.

Walter Trout will be touring the UK in October in support of his latest offering. We’re All In This Together by Walter Trout is released on 1st September via Mascot Label Group/Provogue.
