North East based progressive rock outfit The Pipe Brothers Project release their second single “Sonic Journey”.

Many will be familiar with Andrew and Jamie Pipe from their work with British rock trio The Mentulls. In early 2018 the brothers formed their new instrumental rock group as a side project from their main band. Although still in their early 20s, the duo can boast playing and working alongside many musical greats and some of their all-time heroes from Grammy award winners to rock legends.

The Pipe Brothers Project are probably best described as progressive rock, their music encompasses many different flavours which is helped by their eclectic influences. Speaking of the evolution of their sound Andrew goes on to say “Although we love writing songs with lyrics, we always believe instrumental music can be as powerful as a great song. At the end of the day they are just songs without words, the right melody can be timeless and speak volumes”

Following the release of the duo’s debut single “XLV”, The Pipe Brothers Project release their second track; a download-only single entitled “Sonic Journey”. For the group’s latest offering they enlisted the help of legendary 10cc drummer Paul Burgess and in-demand session bass player Steve Amadeo, who joins Andrew on guitar and Jamie on Keyboards respectively.

With “Sonic Journey” The Pipe Brothers Project have delivered a song which is rooted in the past, whilst simultaneously delivering a sound which perfectly represents progressive rock in 2018. The track gives a subtle nod to legends of the genre like Focus, whilst pushing forward into a more contemporary sound championed by the likes of Steven Wilson.

“Sonic Journey” has many layers which are peeled away for the listener throughout its 4 minute and 20 second duration. The duo’s melodic and somewhat atmospheric musical journey is packed full of infectious hooks, which immediately grab your attention. Likewise, the track truly showcases the phenomenal guitar and keyboard talent of Andrew and Jamie Pipe.

Of course, the song title itself is synonymous with The Pipe Brother’s own musical evolution. One definition of the word Journey is ‘a passage or progress from one stage to another’, and this description perfectly encapsulates the duo’s growth and development as they continue to push their own creative boundaries into new territories.

“Sonic Journey” by The Pipe Brothers Project is out now.
