Norfolk based rockers Bad Touch are getting ready to hit the road across the UK alongside soul sensation Mollie Marriott.
The pair’s recent studio collaboration is a cover of Ike and Tina Turner’s rock and soul classic “Baby Get It On”. The number truly showcases the collective merits of this incredibly talented pairing.
Speaking of the inspiration behind their recent collaboration with Mollie Marriott, Bad Touch’s guitarist Dan Seekings said ‘We wanted something that was sort of not what you would expect but something that works for us and for Mollie and I think the original song is a great song anyway. I put it to the band first – it’s got a Stones feel to it I think and it sort of all went from there basically.’
The release of “Baby Get It On” dovetails the forthcoming Bad Touch/Mollie Marriott UK tour, the track will hopefully be aired during their live performances this time around. According to Seekings ‘The plan is to play it live, which will be another interesting thing because we’ve not done many songs with other people so it will be exciting for us to do something different.’
Working with Mollie Marriott appears to be a match made in heaven for the Norfolk based outfit, the pair gel together effortlessly on “Baby Get It On”. Speaking of the recording of the number Seekings said that ‘Mollie came in on the last day, late morning/early afternoon and she just nailed it basically. She walked in and just nailed her part straight away. It was just like wow – this is great, it sounds great. We were getting excited about it then.’
It’s not only the band who have been getting excited about this release. Since the track’s debut on YouTube three weeks ago it has already racked up in excess of 110k streams online.
However, the band’s latest single was not the only new material Bad Touch were working on in the studio. The band previewed two new songs namely “Take Me Away” and “I Belong” on their recent tour with The Kentucky Headhunters – an indication that a third record might be just around the corner. Speaking of the band’s current studio activities Dan said that ‘The plan is to get a new album done. We’ve had such a hectic year. We’ve been on the road more than we seemed to have done anything else, so it’s finding the time record and write and stuff. We were hoping to get something out for the headline tour. Unfortunately, time was a bit tight and it’s not come through – other than we’ve got the single out with Mollie. So the plan is to go back in the studio probably early next year.’
Over the summer, Bad Touch welcomed original guitarist Rob Glendinning back to the fold, following the departure of Harry Slater. Speaking of his reunited guitar partnership Seekings went on to say that ‘Me and Rob basically started the band when we were in school – we were best friends in school and it had come from there. It was sad when he had to leave earlier this year or the beginning of this year because I had been with him since I was 15. For him to come back is great, I work off him better. Other than Harry I hadn’t worked with another guitar player in a band, I’d only ever been in a band with him. We know what we are doing with each other because we’ve spent so many years playing off each other.’
The forthcoming Bad Touch tour with Mollie Marriott will kick off on Thursday 9th November at The Corperation in Sheffield and will run through until early December before culminating at Planet Rockstock on 3rd December. Tickets are on sale now.
