Hanzel und Gretyl played to a packed house at Small’s in Hamtramck, Michigan on March 29th, 2014. They whipped the crowd into a frenzy with their Americanized brand of industrial heavy metal!
The band was formed in 1993 by Kaizer Von Loopy (guitar, VOX, programming) and Vas Kallas (VOX, bass).
Due to their heavy use of German lyrics, Germanic imagery and German-sounding pseudonyms, these native New Yorkers, whom are still based out of NYC, are often thought of as a German band.
Playing direct support for them was local Detroit Doom legends, Coven 13. These guys formed in 1985 and play dark, gothic sounding, doom influenced metal. The band consists of David Landrum (vocals), Todd Kreda (guitar), Richie Karasinski (guitar), Roger Cyrkiel (bass), and Brian McGuckin (drums). Originally called Coven, they added the 13 after receiving a letter from the original band Coven asking them to change their name as the original band had already owned the copyright to the name.
Our photographer, Chris Betea, was on hand to catch these band’s in action. Here are the images from that night.
